Dr. Z Joins Advisory Board for the M.A.P. New York City Project

New York City has ~1,500 farms and gardens growing food…

In 2021, NYC released its Food Forward NYC plan. Central to this plan is urban agriculture. Urban Agriculture provides socio-economic benefits to communities, improving access to fresh local food while offering educational opportunities and, increasingly, green jobs.

And yet there is currently no easy way to document, analyze, and showcase the food grown in NYC.

M.A.P. NYC is a project to measuring and map agricultural production in New York City. The project aims to understand the extent and nature of current agricultural production in NYC, as well as its correlation with neighborhood demographics, gentrification, and food security status. The effort is being led by researchers from New York University’s Center for Sustainable Business.
