Environmental & Ecological Benefits of Urban Food Gardens

Wednesday, April 20, 2016, 7:00p

Pine Jog Environmental Education Center, 6301 Summit Blvd., West Palm Beach, FL
Dr. Z will talk about The Environmental and Ecological Benefits of Urban Food Gardens. Drawing from a 5-year research study conducted in his own backyard, Dr. Z describes the link between agriculture and environmental degradation, and how urban agriculture can be used to preserve natural habitat, reverse the loss of biodiversity and conserve natural resources. Other environmental benefits will also be presented. Did you know that one residential food garden could save enough energy to power a home for a year and avoid one ton of CO2 emissions to the atmosphere? Even though the current industrialized food system is unsustainable, Dr. Z lays out solutions that can provide for the needs of the 21st century while preserving our natural resources.

All Sierra Club General Meetings are free and open to the public.
